Playlist: Paint with Your Light
“The Light is within. It shines without, but it is never seen because the mind is turned outward. Turn it inward and the Light will be revealed.”
The light of consciousness shines within me. For much of my life, I searched for it – through people, work, experiences – believing it was somewhere outside myself. But it was never missing. The search is part of the illusion that the light could be found elsewhere.
The light is pure awareness, the intelligence that makes everything known. The mind rises within it and calls it the world, giving it shapes, colours, and stories. Yet beneath all that projection and movement, the light remains present – steady, formless, certain, unchanged. Thoughts, feelings, and sensations appear and fade in it.
The light within me isn’t mine, it’s what I am. It moves through everyone and everything, belonging to no one, expressing itself through countless forms as one awareness.
The individual sense of I – the one that says I am happy or I see the tree – is a false appearance. It only seems to exist because it attaches itself to something else. This personal I can survive only through association, it can’t stand alone.
If you remove associations and hold on to just this inner sense of I, the thinker of thoughts and perceiver of perceptions, it can’t remain by itself. It dissolves back into its source, which is the light. In that return, the truth of who you are is revealed. The real I is not individual at all. It’s the knowing in which everything appears.
When the mind becomes still, even for a moment, this luminous knowing shines. Beyond thought, identity, or the urge to seek.
It lives as me, self-shining and experiencing itself by its own light of awareness.
